Preview

No folder selected

Choose a folder containing the files to rename. Files will be changed directly in that folder.

Before you start

Use Chrome or Edge on a desktop or laptop. This tool uses the File System Access API and needs permission to read and write your selected folder. It changes filenames directly in that folder.

Keep a backup and check the preview before applying changes. The tool is free to use without an account. Your files are not uploaded; usage and feedback events help us improve the tool.

Batch rename files without installing software

Turn names such as IMG_001.jpg into names that fit your project. Add a product code, replace a repeated phrase, number files in order or use a photo’s capture date. Operations run in sequence, so you can build a naming recipe from several simple steps.

For example, clear the existing name, add a product prefix and append three-digit numbering to create product-001.jpg, product-002.jpg and so on. The extension is kept separately from the name. Check the live preview to see the result before changing any files.

How to use the bulk file renamer

  1. Select a folder. Allow the browser to read and write the files you want to rename.
  2. Add operations. Choose text, numbering, dates, regular expressions, CSV mappings or metadata.
  3. Set the order. Move operations up or down and sort the files to control numbering.
  4. Check the preview. Review original and new names. Fix duplicates or invalid characters before continuing.
  5. Rename the files. Optionally save a CSV change log, then review the results. Keep the results window open if you want to restore the previous names.

Rename files from a CSV mapping

Use a CSV dictionary to match original filenames to new names from a spreadsheet. Choose the input and output columns, set case sensitivity and decide how to handle extensions. This is useful when product codes or catalogue names are already stored in a spreadsheet.

Rename photos using EXIF metadata

Build filenames from available metadata such as capture date, camera make or model. Browse the fields found in a sample file, choose a date format and adjust the time offset if needed. Files without the chosen metadata may produce a different result, so check the preview.

Text replacement and regex

Replace words, remove unwanted characters or use regular expressions to match filename patterns. Capture groups let you reuse parts of the original name. A regex helper is available from the operation editor. It opens an external service and sends the sample filename from your preview to that service.

Save operations as presets

Save a naming recipe for each recurring task. Load it for a new folder and check the preview. Import and export JSON presets to reuse the same operations in another browser.

Organise product photos and other files

Use consistent names for product images, project documents or photo collections. If you also need to prepare product images, try our free batch image cropper. For new shop images, explore our product photography services.
